Suffering, grief, pain, confusion, feeling out of control, overwhelm. . . . . I offer ways to come to terms with these experiences. It's not always about letting go of the suffering and grief and pain; sometimes that's just not possible, especially in the face of great loss or trauma. But as we sit together in your place of suffering, where your experience is compassionately and empathically witnessed, we find a way to let it be. And life then becomes richer and deeper with more meaning and satisfaction. I work psychodynamically, which simply means that I understand the unconscious to inform our lives to a great degree. I have an extensive and long personal, academic, and professional background in trauma. I am well-versed in, and continue to train in the healing work of trauma. I work with clients who are suffering from post-traumatic stress, are in grief, or are suffering from depression and anxiety. Parenting and relationship challenges, life transitions, and spiritual crises are also issues I work through with clients. I support those who are working to maintain their recovery from substance addictions. I see individuals 5 yrs and into elderhood in my practice. I have an extensive background in working with adolescents. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Jungian-based sandplay therapy, mindfulness practices and dialectical behavior-informed therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy. I do not take insurance at this time. Fees are $120/60 minutes.
I have worked therapeutically with adolescents for over 11 years, including 5 years as a school-based mental health counselor for Island County where I also worked with K-5th grade students. I see children and teenagers who struggle with a wide range of issues: academics, peers, parents, siblings, and/or social situations, self-harming behaviors such as cutting or substance abuse, trauma, depression, and anxiety. I also work to resolve issues including AD/HD behaviors, opposition, depression, anxiety, and behavior "problems" in school. I have also worked with children who have experienced parental loss, physical and sexual abuse, sibling abuse, and a myriad of traumas. With any child or adolescent client, I require ongoing active participation from parents and/or families. Lastly, I offer services for people who have experienced the betrayal trauma, anger, and grief associated with the loss of a child through paternity fraud.
