Hello, I'm Alex. If you are currently looking for a therapist, then you probably have some unanswered questions in your life. Maybe you are struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety. Maybe you are going through a major life change, such as ending a long-term relationship or grieving the death of a loved one. Whatever the reason you are seeking support at this time in your life, you have chosen to take the first step, and I can help. My professional training focused on holistic health psychology, or treating the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. I am a firm believer that this approach can be incredibly beneficial to the people I work with, and is much more effective than simply trying to treat symptoms. Approaching therapy this way means I strive to create an environment of empathetic understanding, trust, and honesty in my relationships with my clients, and encourage you to be involved in identifying issues that feel most relevant to you, while working with you on developing effective coping skills to address your needs. My treatment approach includes aspects of Humanistic Psychology, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Mindfulness.
One area that I specialize in is chemical dependency. This is an issue that has become increasingly present in today's society. The abuse of substances can wreak havoc on relationships, careers, and physical health. Using them as a coping mechanism, as many of us have done at one point or another, can quickly spiral out of control, leaving the user feeling desperate to quit and overwhelmed with how to do so. Whether you simply have questions or concerns about your use of substances, or whether your use is overtly problematic, we can work together to address your needs. Another area I specialize in is anxiety. Anxiety is one of the major reasons people seek therapy. It is very common to experience anxiety throughout different times in your life. Anxiety serves a very important purpose, and can actually be beneficial when it's not out of control. Together, we will explore your experiences and identify what is causing your anxiety, while practicing new coping skills to help you move forward.
