Practice Overview:

I have had a private practice for 22 years.  I have worked with a variety of clients, including individuals of all ages, couples, and families, and we work on the gamut of diagnosed mental health issues and other personal concerns that clients are trying to manage in their lives. I find working with a variety of clients who are dealing with many different issues is stimulating and challenging. My theoretical foundations are Person-centered, Existential, Positive Psychology, and Transpersonal. Building on my foundational beliefs and specific training I have completed, I use a variety of therapeutic approaches/interventions with clients, choosing ones from CBT, MI, A&C, EFT, LI, systems, client-centered, expressive, depth psychology and others that address more existential or transpersonal concerns.   I consider the interventions that seem most appropriate for each client and goals they hope to accomplish in counseling, discuss them with the client, and utilize them in our work together in therapy.  I believe in ongoing formal assessment during the therapy process starting with the initial session, ongoing every few weeks, and at termination so that my client and I can evaluate the efficacy of our work together.  I utilize a treatment plan that the client has agreed to in my treatment work with clients, however, we will address their current needs as they come up in therapy and adjust our treatment plan as needed.

Supervisory Approach:

I have been supervising MHC's and MFT's for 21 years.   My supervision training began in my doctoral program followed by 2 1/2 years (75 hours) of supervision of my supervision of Master’s students and PhD candidates.  Following my PhD, in addition to my private practice, I have provided supervision to Post-Masters level MFTs & MHCs working on licensure in Idaho and Washington.   Initially, we will sign a supervision contract stating responsibilities of each of us.   In sessions, we will focus on ethical practices, client case reviews, process and documentation of therapy: intake, assessment, treatment planning, interventions, &
