Woodland Pathways Counseling

Teresa Zuvela (formerly Maples)

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Many of my clients have experienced hurts and betrayal from a loved one. Types of hurts include infidelity, being made to feel crazy, and lack of emotional or physical intimacy. Many times these current day hurts are related to a pattern of behavior which was learned as a youngster growing up with an addictive family system.

Maybe you had an alcoholic or drug addicted parent. Some addictive family systems seem as though they are "normal" but there is a secret addiction such as porn addiction, gambling, gaming or other behavioral addiction present. Adaptive behavior learned in an addictive family often leads to problems trying to relate to others as an adult.

If you grew up in an addictive family system, you learned behaviors which probably don't serve you well now. You can learn new relational skills which can work better for you now as an adult. It's not rocket science but it does mean learning a new way of doing things relationally.

If you are wanting to learn new skills, and heal the hurts from the past, you are welcome to call for help.

I have been counseling individuals, groups, and couples since 1997. Most recently, I help my clients to reduce anxiety, heal pain, and learn new skills by use of mindfulness, Attachment-Focused EMDR, Partners of Sex Addiction Treatment and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I have successfully attained certifications in EMDR, Sexual Addiction treatment, Multiple Addiction Treatment. Additional skills include Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention for Addiction, Expressive Art Therapy, and ego state therapy.

I have been working with people affected by Sexual addiction, affairs, and emotional affairs since 2009. Betrayed partners present to therapy confused and disorientated, I help them to stabilize their emotions and teach them to calm and soothe their bodies.

Once stabilized, we begin to focus on their needs and wants for their life. Teaching Boundaries and supporting them to speak up for themselves to get their needs and wants to be met. As the person becomes stronger we work on healing triggers and hurts from the present and past.

Finally, work begins on post-traumatic growth. Living in freedom from the past and expanding opportunities for the future.

Woodland Pathways Counseling has two locations based in Tacoma and Seattle Washington.

Client Safety is highly valued and protected. I provide a safe place to explore your hurts, heal and achieve your goals.

I work closely with other CSAT therapists for those clients who have experienced sexual betrayal in a committed relationship. This provides a safety containment and high ethical standards for best practices while treating those affected by sexual addiction.

My approach is highly individualized based on your needs and goals.
