Christina Forsythe

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

I believe each of us, deep down, hold our own answers to the issues we face. Sometimes we need an objective listener to ask new questions, suggest new skills, be supportive and coach us through tough times. Humans have a tremendous ability to handle the traumatic events in life. We build strategies to get us through the day. At some point, we might realize that these strategies no longer work and may even be causing more problems than they solve. This is when the support of a caring professional can help us find more efficient strategies to handle our lives. Although I consistently use cognitive-behavioral methods, I also draw upon an eclectic pool of theories to find the "best fit" for each client. I bring my zest for self-exploration and gaining insight to each session with my clients. I believe in the abilities of my clients to "find their bliss" and live fulfilling lives.

I have advanced training in EMDR Therapy, a therapeutic tool for handling traumatic experiences. I have been using EMDR Therapy since 2003. EMDR Therapy has been show to have longer lasting positive results than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (i.e. "talk therapy") in healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and attachment difficulties. EMDR Therapy is one of two endorsed treatments for trauma by the World Health Organization. It has also been used in many VA Hospitals to help veterans heal from trauma. I work with clients with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, attachment difficulties, and dental anxiety/trauma using EMDR Therapy. EMDR Therapy addresses the past events and current difficulties, as well as developing a "future template" for handling current difficulties without distress in the future.

I have over 20 years experience working with clients of all ages. I currently work with adults and adolescents. I have experience counseling clients with mood disorders (depression, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, separation anxiety, PTSD), addiction and recovery, trauma, survivor issues, parenting issues, life transitions, sexual orientation issues, gender issues, family of origin issues, attachment issues, and grief and loss. Please call me for a free 30 minute phone consultation. Please visit my website for more information.
