Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

It is my privilege to walk alongside your journey to help you to examine your life, identify and embrace your strengths and limitations, while working through obstacles that get in the way of you living a fulfilling and meaningful life. I work with individual, couples and families on the issues of anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, childhood trauma, and recovery work. My practice is clinically focused, theory and research-informed and yet pragmatic. I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process, thriving on the mutual trust and respect between therapist and client. I bring my genuine self into the room in a compassionate and analytical way. In counseling, I work to help clients gain clarity, develop coping skills and resources and empower them to make the decisions they desire to achieve their goals. I will assist clients to establish their personal goals and provide support and guidance for them to seek new possibilities, clarify paths, tap into their own wisdom, and move toward solutions that work for them to improve their lives.

I have been in the field for over 17 years and have worked extensively in public and private mental health settings with a wide range of clinical issues. I have worked with a wide range of client population, both voluntary and involuntary ones with various issues, ranging from individual’s behavioral and mental issues, grief, trauma, alcohol and substance use, couple’s relationships, family’s conflicts, and life transitions. I especially enjoy working with survivors of emotional, sexual and physical abuse. I am honored to listen to those stories and walk alongside to empower them and faciliate personal growth. Trained as a couple therapist, my couple’s work is grounded in Gottman couple therapy method. I am also a certified Gottman Seven Principles Leader and Educator. Couple therapy may include behavioral work on communication and problem solving, and promote intimacy. I am also a certified PREPARE/ENRICH counselor providing premarital counseling to the couples who are engaged or thinking to get engaged.

I also incorporated spirituality as a resource in therapy as long as the clients view it as a resource and desire to include it into their treatment. I am sensitive to cross-cultural factors and respect that people are experts in their own care. In addition to English, I speak Mandarin Chinese fluently. I can conduct therapy in both English and Mandarin Chinese simultaneously. My bilingual capacity is a great asset, especially for those Mandarin-speaking immigrant families that raise an English-speaking younger generation.
