Barbara Grote

Licensed Psychologist

Barbara has a doctorate in clinical psychology & is a licensed psychologist. She works with individuals who are experiencing depression/mood disorders, anxiety/panic attacks, relationship issues, life transitions (divorce, job change, bereavement, serious illness), and trauma. She works with a range of individuals including executives, artists, students, professionals, service workers, small business owners, and others. Her approach is caring, and individually tailored to each client's personality and therapy goals. She listens carefully to understand what you are experiencing, and offers feedback and observations. She attempts to create an environment that is collaborative, non-judgmental, and safe. She draws upon her training in humanistic, relational, neurobiological (especially for trauma), and cognitive therapy approaches as appropriate. Short and long-term therapy work. Insurance and private pay accepted. Individual adults & teens & couples counseling.

Child/Adult surviors of dysfunctional families: Adult survivors of child abuse, neglect or molestation who now seek help for adult problems. One area of specialty in my practice is working with adults--now facing issues such as depression, anxiety, or relationship issues--who experienced abuse, neglect, molestation, or family dysfunction as children. If appropriate, I may use my training in somatic therapy (based upon neurobiological and attachment theories). This approach uses somatic inquiry, somatic empathy, somatic observation, and principles such as oscillation to bring the body back into a normal or regulated state. Because each person I see is unique, I work with you to find the approach (talk therapy, collaborative problem solving, dream work, etc.) that is most helpful.

People come to see me for different reasons. Some of these include: to alleviate symptoms or suffering, to get help navigating through a difficult time in life, to heal from trauma, to resolve a short or long term issue, to gain additional self understanding or acceptance, or to become more fully the person you are. In addition to being a psychologist, I bring to my practice diverse life experience-- heading a non profit, being a high tech exec, and being a parent.
