About me

I deeply believe that people have a natural tendency toward growth and wholeness, and that therapy is one of the many ways people can actively move toward these natural tendencies. While therapy is often started because of discomfort and challenges in life, I believe that growth occurs through, and then beyond, suffering.

Some commonalities I have seen as a person grows and changes are increasing their awareness and acceptance of their thoughts, feelings, relationship patterns, and life history in order to live more deliberately and fully. I have worked with clients experiencing relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, bipolar disorder, career transitions, and both exploring and expressing their gender identities. The therapy I facilitate is an exploration of the different parts of you so they can be integrated into a fuller and more whole experience.

My style of therapy has a variety of influences, which reflects my own variety of interests. I have participated in classes, workshops, and trainings in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Process Work, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mentalization Based Therapy, and Somatic Psychotherapy, in addition to having experience in a variety of mindfulness practices. I was educated at a graduate school that embraced and taught the utilization of critical theory to work toward social justice.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington. I received my M.A. in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling in 2015. Before graduate school, I began working in the field of mental health in 2008, when I worked for a therapeutic farm. Prior to working in mental health, I worked as an attorney before making a career change. Working with people both exploring and executing career changes is a passion of mine.

I love working with Alex. He is deeply present and attentive and able to help me quickly identify what I am feeling. Then he’s skilled at helping me actually connect with myself and feel what’s there. At the same time he’s very engaging, action oriented, and ready to do exercises or activities to work through problems and sticking points. And to top it off, he brings in a wide range of knowledge and quotes from psychoanalysis to Buddhist literature.

Alex has been an awesome person to work with. He is very perceptive and get exactly what I am feeling or going through even when I can’t articulate it well. He see through my experiences to understand what’s troubling me and explains the science behind it which I appreciate so much. He also shares small actionable solutions to ensure progress. Definitely recommend working with Alex.
