About me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Life Coach who specializes in helping you overcome emotional and mental pain and to bring you out of the darkness into the light of hope, peace, and purpose. I have over 12 years experience in working with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, anger, OCD, disappointment, burnout, being stuck, out of balance, and being out of sync with yourself and others in your life. The therapy approaches I use are CBT, Solution-focused, motivational interviewing, life-coaching approach but each person is unique and I tailor my approach to what you need. I have experience with men, women, and couples.

I also specialize in helping men find their identity, their purpose, and to grow into who they were meant to be by addressing the roadblocks that are holding them back; mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.

I'm curious about you! I'm curious about your life, what you do, what you need, what you want, who you are, who you really are, your natural or developed strengths, your empowering and limiting beliefs, your values, your purpose, your helpful and harmful habits, your motivations, and especially your destination in life. I'm curious about who you are when you are authentic and what that means going forward for you. I have both the education and the life experience to back it up. I have learned people are unique and special in their own way. My clients say I am “gentle, accepting, non-judgmental, attentive, and challenges them,” and I have the utmost respect for those who have the courage to ask for help.

I’m so thankful to have found Dan. He has been patient with me, while giving me practical tools to help me feel and do better. I appreciate his perspective, his life experience and how he uses science to explain how the brain works. I’m excited to continue working with Dan and the progress I can make with his support.

My husband and I chose Dr. Paulsen to help us learn to communicate effectively and to resolve conflict and resentment issues. We've only been married 3 years, together 5 and I wish we chose to do this sooner. I was seriously doubting the longevity of our relationship a few months ago. I was looking for apartments to rent, I was hurt, exhausted and trying to run our family all by myself. Dr. Paulsen helped us listen to each other, appreciate each other, and make us fall in love again and remember why we chose to get married and be a family in the first place. I like him so much I feel guilty for ending counseling after 2 months! My hubs was so nervous to do counseling and Dr. Paulsen made it a painless experience.
