About me

I come from a diverse background in business and music but have always had an interest in listening to people’s experiences and a passion for helping others to thrive. Life doesn’t always feel easy, and there’re times where it feels like you’re alone on your path to figure it all out… I like to think of my role as a therapist as being someone who can walk with you on that path for a while; someone who will provide encouragement, sometimes challenge you, and always be present with you as someone you can trust.
When asked who I like to work with and who fits well with my counseling style, I respond with this: are you facing a change in your life, or some obstacle that leaves you feeling tired, defeated, overwhelmed, constantly stressed, and alone? Do you feel stuck in your current struggles like your tires are spinning but you aren’t going anywhere?
I work with my clients to explore how their experiences in life have shaped their relationships with themselves and how to improve that self-relationship. I help my clients find new, constructive ways to channel difficult emotions to feel better in daily life. I help my clients explore healthier ways of relating to the others – spouses, coworkers, bosses, children – to improve their relationships with the people nearest to them.
I specialize in working with men on issues related to dating, relationships, and masculinity. I also have specialty training in working with parents whose children’s behavior present unique challenges. I use evidence-based approaches to therapy involving a holistic approach to thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and actions. My style is empathic, empowering, and goal-oriented and I strive for my connections with my clients to be professional, yet “real”, rather than ultra-clinical.
If this fits what you’re looking for in a counselor, I look forward to meeting you!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Ian Scheiner. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I came to Ian with a specific aspect of my history that I wanted to work on. He understood immediately what I needed and is working with me to find the right path forward. After trying a few different methods and counsellors previously, it's been a relief to feel like we are addressing an actual problem and there is real progress to be made.
