About me

Congratulations on taking the first step towards healing and a better you! I am a LCSW with 12+ years of experience working in clinical and community settings, adult education, inpatient and outpatient clinics. My specialties are in depression, anxiety, and trauma work. I believe that different life events can get us to places where we are feeling stuck and we sometimes need a little bit of help becoming the people we were born to be. Populations which I am familiar with working with are military members and their families, LGBTQ+, and those who have experienced rejection or displacement from their family or community. As an American working in Europe for military purposes, I have unique experiences with being dislocated from family and cultural transitions.

I earned my Bachelor's is in Exercise Science from Black Hills State University in South Dakota with my Master's of Social Work from Walla Walla University in Washington and am a PhD candidate but have not finished my dissertation just yet.

I am trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), TF-CBT (trauma focused - cognitive behavioral theory) , and MI (motivational interviewing). All of these modalities are client driven, which allows for the client to make goals and work with your natural strengths.

I have experience working with a variety of populations across different modalities that work for clients at your speed. I look forward to working with you.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kathleen Young. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Kathleen is awesome! Therapists who are trauma-informed are a rare find, and finding one with life experience without judgment has been even more difficult. I’m happy to say that Kathleen has made a big difference in the way I approach difficulties and I’m hoping to continue working with her for a while.

Kathleen is fantastic! She takes the time to understand my issues and gives practical advice that can be used immediately. Also. she makes me feel as if I am okay. That might sound weird but I have felt "off" or wrong most of my life.....Like I can't figure out how to be a regular human being. Her calm demeanor is comforting and I never feel judged. In my mind, she is just going to think I am stupid but when I say what I need to say, it never phases her and she reassures me that I am not alone in my thinking. She is always focused on what I need to get out of our session and that helps. My first therapist on here spoke more about himself than helping me with my concerns. I am conflicted about writing a glowing review because while she deserves it, I don't want it to be more difficult to get an appointment with her :)

Kathleen has been absolutely brilliant. She is able to speak *with* you about what ever you're trying to solve, rather than at you. She is very effective at getting to an actionable step by the end of the session and for the first time in my life made therapy feel like effective self help rather than a chore. She is extremely knowledgeable and empathetic, and I couldn't recommend more.

Even with the time difference she makes me feel important and she helps me with my depression. She listens very well and is encouraging me to do the things I want to do.
