About me

Thank you for reaching out to the BetterHelp community for the support you are seeking. May you find the best fit of a counselor to help you successfully to navigate through your current situation.

I have been working as a practicing licensed mental health/behavioral health counselor since 2016 in particular with populations of clients and their families and caregivers who are struggling with life threatening illnesses, including at end of life. I also have experience in psychiatric counseling in both the inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. Common themes with clients have been anxiety, depression, family/intimate relationships, family of origin, existential questions/facing mortality, compassion fatigue, caregiver burnout, and trauma. In the center of my therapeutic approach is a strong therapeutic relationship with clients based on compassion and empathetic understanding/listening/seeking to know and a view that is based on seeing clients in a person-in-environment, and focus on helping the client explore and find the wisdom within themselves. My approach tend to be client-centered, strength-based, solution-focused, and includes explorations, as appropriate, of mindfulness techniques, spiritual values, promoting quality of life, finding meaning/purpose in face of adversity, creating healthy boundaries, use and practice of coping skills based on clients' unique strengths and personal and cultural background, My approach also is strongly influenced by modalities/theories such as internal family systems, neuroscience (particularly having participated in three years of neuropsychological research on stress/learning and memory), cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic and attachment theory.

I have had rich life experience as a classical musical artist before mid-life. I find that having lived a full life before becoming counselor, and in particular as a minority as well as being a woman, allows me to provide informed client care, and added capacity to empathize with the human condition. I also have five higher education degrees that include degrees in psychology (neuroscience research based/focused) and clinical social work with intensive focus on counseling those with life-limiting illnesses.

I wish you beauty, healing and recovery, and ultimately a celebration of all that is in store for you in your unique personal journey.
