About me

Greetings, and Welcome to BetterHelp! My name is Susan Santiago-Turner, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington. I graduated in 2001 from the University of Missouri with my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. In 2013, I earned my Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Rochester.
My lived experience as a primary and long-distance caregiver, coupled with over 14-years of counseling experience, provides me with the foundational knowledge, clinical experience, and compassion needed to validate and empower clients serving as caregivers for family members living with a chronic or terminal illness; often without the support needed to maintain their own mental health wellness. More specifically, I counsel middle-aged adults who are now serving as their parents’ primary caregiver—a role-reversal few are prepared for especially if there is a history of unreported sibling physical and sexual abuse. This role-reversal with ones’ aging parents can often lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Having said this, I want you you to know that while my area of specialization is with older adults and their caregivers; I also modify my counseling approach to successfully counsel adults across the lifespan experiencing the challenging and often ambiguous situations concerning problems of daily living similar to what you might be experiencing.
I practice from a strengths-based framework, coupled with a modified blend of Narrative and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, that can reduce symptoms of anxiety related to interpersonal conflict. In short, I want to learn as much about you, your story, and the problems of daily living you are currently experiencing. In time, working with your existing strengths can empower you to overcome your anxiety and duress by restructuring your thought patterns and behavior and rewrite your life story for a future that reflects who you are, what you are capable of, and what your purpose is. If my words resonate with you, please reach-out so we can work together and get you to a place that feels authentic and fills you with the strength needed to tackle problems of daily living.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Susan Santiago-Turner. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Dr. Santiago was very helpful, insightful and understood my position when I really didn't think anyone could. I felt silly and she made me feel like I wasn't just plain ridiculous.
