About me

Theo (Tim) Hopf, PhD, LHMC
Most of my life, my work as an adult has included teaching, mentoring and counseling. I SO enjoy seeing others succeed in their gaining what they need to be more successful, happy and thus building a healthy understanding of who they are and applying that to their lives as professionals, parents, and mentor to others.
I was raised on a farm. My parents raised us (I have an older brother) to work hard but our home lacked the warmth, understanding and yes—positive regard—we all seek. This part my life came later with the incredible people I met along the way. One was a neighbor who migrated from Kentucky and ran a fruit ranch as well as working eight hours a day for another farm. He did not have a high school education, but he had an inner glow; a twinkle in his eyes and a love of life and what it has to offer. He taught me that laughter is almost as important as food and water, but it was important that one not laugh at anyone as a judgment.
I also have had the opportunity to work with some of the great mentors in my chosen field of counseling. Here are several examples of what I mean: Carl Rogers, a founder of humanistic psychology and his approach to Client-centered therapy. Another is Irv Yalom whose wisdom is captured by his work in Existential Psychotherapy. And Barry Stephens, who Fritz Perls (a baseline in Gestalt Therapy) said that she was the best natural therapist in the world at that time.
My approach is eclectic. I develop a relationship with the client and then WE decide how we are going to work together. If this appeals to you; rings a bell in terms of seeing our work as a way to heal the wounds, gain in self-acceptance, and see how YOUR work can serve others no matter your chosen occupation, your family or your fellow workers, then let’s get started! I look forward to talking with you starting a new learning process for both of us!
