Susan Hall

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

I have been a mental health counselor for 16 years and am still fascinated by the work of discovering solutions to clients' struggles and heartaches. My approach is warm and inviting--in fact, my clients tease me about my eternal optimism for their progress. I enjoy researching treatment options for a variety of diagnoses so that I can offer the most current treatment strategies to my clients. Still, I view the therapeutic relationship as just that--a relationship--and I see the client as an expert in her/his own life. My goal is to work together for symptom relief and also true growth of character over the lifespan.

My first career was in social work, and in the process of founding and running a shelter for women and children, I learned just how interested I was in understanding the hurdles that women face simply by virtue of being women in this world. While I loved providing respite for women and their children, I became convinced that I needed to learn how to work with women's hearts and minds so that they could finally escape the powerful factors that unraveled their lives, from domestic violence to poor self-esteem and body image issues. This is sacred work for me, and I consider it a privilege to come alongside women who are in the process of self-discovery and the creation of their unique personhood.

As a member of a biracial family, I bring a race-conscious lens to my work with clients. I have an informed perspective on adoption and immigration issues as well and am honored to support families in those often arduous journeys.
