Psychological evaluations (psych eval) of adolescents or adults for the court and probation. Also, evaluation of such defense issues as diminished capacity, competency and mitigating circumstances for sentencing. This usually involves evaluating persons charged with a felony or misdemeanor. In such cases it is considered possible that the defendant has some psychological or psychiatric condition that contributed to the offense or may have created a mental impairment. Psych evaluations (or psych evals) or assessments are often ordered by the superior court or requested by defense attorneys as a part of the defense of either parent in Family Court cases. Dr. Dixon has also testified in behalf of individuals charged with misdemeanors and planning deferred sentences or deferred prosecutions with mental health issues, for example in shoplifting cases. Dr. Dixon sees adolescents charged with felonies (animal cruelty, assault, molestation, kidnapping, robbery or murder) and evaluates developmental disabilities (mental retardation, ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, etc.) for issues related to competency to stand trial, mitigating circumstances and possible "diminished capacity" issues.
