Choosing to enter into a counseling relationship is an opportunity for growth and change. In my practice, I strive to empower clients to see their own strengths as they navigate the challenges that life brings. My hope is to build a trusting relationship in which together we can illuminate the path towards healing. My speciality areas are in the intersection of grief. trauma, and mental health. My work with clients has focused on traumatic loss and its aftermath, the ramifications of loss on the family system, depression, life transitions, and family relationship difficulties.
I have worked with children. adolescents, and adults facing traumatic loss for the last 10 years of my career. In addition to private practice, I have worked as a case manager for a community mental health agency, a hospice social worker, and a Clinical Director of a non-profit that provides grief and loss services for children and adults. I strongly believe that children, just as adults, know what they need to do to heal. My job is to provide a safe space in which both children and adults can explore their concerns, fears, and worries. Children may likely do this exploration through play and creative expression, and adults may do this through talk and meditation as well as creative expression. My hope is to find the modality that works for each client so that the experience of therapy is both useful and transformative.
Prior to working in grief and loss, the extent of my career focused on mental health, life management, and family dynamics as a result of mental health diagnosis. I received my MSW from the University of Washington in 2002 and a Certificate in Psychological Trauma and Treatment in 2012. I have several years experience with both children and adults and would be honored to serve as your counselor.
