Jim Dunn

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

I provide online counseling sessions using Simple Practice.

I have over 14 years of experience in providing therapy to clients who are at a turning point in their lives. I am a non-judgmental and mindful therapist and I’ve worked with a broad range of people, so I’m able to take an individualized approach that addresses your unique needs. In session we’ll take time to build trust and create an environment where you feel safe to explore whatever you’re struggling with. Your therapy is yours, and I’ll make sure we’re working toward what you need and want, not what I or anyone else may want.

I've been fortunate to work in a broad variety of treatment settings, including in-patient, residential, out-patient clinic, out-patient private, crisis response, and community mental health. I've worked with clients across the spectrum of socio-economic status, across the age spectrum, gender and sexual orientation spectrums, and severity spectrum. Given this breadth of experience, I believe I have gained a more unique set of skills to view the bigger picture and pull from a broad range of treatment modalities and understandings.

Therapy is the process of change we go through to improve our lives.

I don’t want to pathologize how you got to where you are today as it can lend itself too easily to judgment. You have been doing your absolute best to manage how life has turned out for you; and if you’re here, you are wanting to manage it even better. Therapy is the way in which we help you do that. This includes multiple evidence based approaches, informative psycho-education, unconditional positive regard, intelligent and intuitive responses to your needs, empathy and warmth, and letting you continue to be the expert on who you are and what you feel.
